The folk at Stone & Wood have gone from strength to strength since their story began in 2008.
Their homegrown business and not-for-profit inGrained Foundation have done extraordinary things for the Northern Rivers community, and they have been long-term supporters of Big Scrub Landcare.
Last week marked the start of a new chapter for the local business, with the announcement it will become part of Lion Australia. The announcement came with good news for the community and environment, with Lion committing to completing the plans for building the new Northern Rivers brewery and the continuation of the existing Greenfeet program, B Corp certification and community partnerships.
The announcement also came with great news for the Big Scrub. As part of its commitment, Lion will make a $5 million donation to the inGrained Foundation and a $1 million donation to Big Scrub Landcare.
“We are extremely grateful to hear of the intention to support us in the future and the opportunities this will bring,” said Big Scrub Landcare Co-Founder Dr Tony Parkes.
While Stone & Wood’s agreement with Lion is still pending an ACCC review and is not yet official, Dr Parkes and the team are looking forward to the potential work ahead. “We hope to direct some of the funds towards our groundbreaking Science Saving Rainforests Program,” he said. “Conducted in partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, the Program is applying genome science to help avoid the extinction of critically endangered lowland subtropical rainforest and its many threatened species across the Big Scrub and beyond.”
We look forward to sharing more news about what this generous donation might achieve for the Big Scrub once all is official in the coming months.
