About Us

We are one of Australia’s leading not-for-profit community conservation organisations. Founded in 1993, and with more than 600 members and supporters, we connect the community and use world-leading scientific approaches to help save lowland subtropical rainforest.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help save from extinction Australia’s critically endangered lowland subtropical rainforest and its many threatened species.

Our Stakeholders

We talk to and work with governments, philanthropists, business, private landholders, community organisations and the general community on our unique lowland subtropical rainforest, its magnificent biodiversity, its restoration and ongoing care.

Management team

Our Management Team incorporates a diverse range of specialists including ecologists, rainforest restoration and seed propagation experts, accomplished business professionals and an experienced investment banker.

Financial support

We have over the past 30 years received substantial financial support from the Australian and NSW governments, philanthropists, business and community donors. Our sister organisation, the Big Scrub Foundation, also helps fund our work. Both the Conservancy and the Foundation have DGR status that enables donors to receive tax-deductions on their donations.

Maximising the benefit of donations

We and the Big Scrub Foundation spend substantially less than 15% of donations on administration and marketing and we do not pay commissions on fund raising. This ensures we maximise use of funds on saving from extinction our critically endangered lowland subtropical rainforest and its many threatened species.

Awards

We have received numerous awards for our rainforest restoration work, which over the past 30-plus years has delivered more than 50 on-ground rainforest restoration projects valued at over $5m.

Science Saving Rainforests

We are currently leading the Science Saving Rainforests Program, a partnership that includes the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the NSW Government and the Big Scrub Foundation. This multi-million dollar long-term program is applying the latest genome science to inform on-ground restoration and help save from extinction Australia’s critically endangered lowland subtropical rainforest and its many threatened plant species.
